Vernon: Cowgirl Hanover strikes again in New York Sire Stakes
?q=100)
The Last Martini ended the undefeated run of stablemate Cowgirl Hanover when they met in the New York Sire Stakes for rookie pacing fillies at Batavia Downs most recently, but on Friday night at Vernon Downs, Cowgirl Hanover got her revenge by taking the lone $108,200 NYSS tilt over The Last Martini in a 1:52 1/5 mile.
Cowgirl Hanover (Doug McNair) and Fansville (Matt Kakaley) were side-by-side for the lead at the 26 2/5 quarter, but Fansville took control briefly past that station before Cowgirl Hanover went back to the front. From there, Cowgirl Hanover hit the half in 55 2/5 and the three-quarters in 1:25 as The Last Martini (Jason Bartlett) began to advance first-up from third on the last turn.
In the lane Cowgirl Hanover was able to keep a game The Last Martini at bay and would prevail by a length and a quarter. Shes A Streaker (Jordan Stratton) closed well for third, followed by Send It Down Slim (Mark MacDonald) and Fansville. Cowgirl Hanover did go inside one pylon turning for home but was deemed to have not violated any rules.
