Velazquez sets money record

John Velazquez broke Jerry Bailey's single-season earnings record Sunday at Aqueduct.

Velazquez's mounts have earned $23,356,456 this year to establish the mark for a North American-based rider. Included in that total is Velazquez's victory aboard Roses in May in the $6 million Dubai World Cup.

Velazquez took the mark when India finished third in the Valley Stream Stakes to earn $10,792.

Bailey set the previous mark of $23,354,960 in 2003 and that remains the single-season record for earnings compiled exclusively in North America. Velazquez has earned $19,756,456 in North America this year.
