Vekoma, Country House 2-year-olds breeze quickest furlong for F-T Midlantic June sale
Juveniles from the first crops of Vekoma and Country House turned in the fastest furlong times during Monday's under-tack preview show for the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic June sale of 2-year-olds in training at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium.
The Vekoma colt and the Country House filly each breezed a furlong in 10 seconds flat in advance of Tuesday's single-session sale, an event that was added to the calendar last year. Buyers and consignors have frequently discussed the opportunity to breeze over the dirt track at Timonium as a factor that creates confidence in Fasig-Tipton's strong Midlantic May marketplace, a feeling that could carry over to the June sale.
The New Jersey-bred Vekoma colt, a May foal from the family of Grade 1 winners Sharp Cat and Royal Anthem, is consigned by Mason Springs, as agent. Vekoma leads the freshman sire class with eight individual winners through June 23.

Country House, who was multiple graded stakes-placed before being elevated to victory via disqualifcation in the 2019 Kentucky Derby, was a later-developing runner who has not yet produced a starter. His Indiana-bred bullet worker, consigned by James Layden, as agent, is out of the stakes-placed Bud's Little Edge, dam of 13-time winner Astartobe.
Among a smaller group working a quarter-mile Monday, three New York-breds tied for the fastest time of 21 4/5 seconds. The trio consisted of a gelding by the state's leading sire Central Banker; a gelding by last year's state-leading freshman sire Solomini; and a filly by New York-bred classic winner Tiz the Law, a freshman standing in Kentucky this year.
All three have Grade 1 winners on their respective catalog pages. The Tiz the Law filly’s dam is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Pauline's Pearl.
