Barbara D. Livingston With Lone Star's riding title pretty much in hand, Ramon Vazquez may ride at Del Mar.

Jockey Ramon Vazquez, who leads the Lone Star Park colony with 50 wins through Thursday, is considering riding at Del Mar following the close of the Texas meet on Sunday, according to his agent, Cody Autrey.

“We’re discussing going to Del Mar over the break between Lone Star and Remington,” said Autrey. “Nothing’s set in stone yet.”

Autrey said Vazquez plans to ride this fall at Remington. Vazquez has a 16-win lead in the Lone Star standings over David Cabrera.

Floods impact racing

The flooding in Central Texas caused cancellations last weekend at both Retama Park near San Antonio and the Gillespie County Fair in Fredericksburg. Officials are hopeful racing will resume as early as this weekend at Retama and for Gillespie’s next scheduled weekend, July 19-20.

“The Texas racing community has yet to report any equine loses,” the Texas Racing Commission said in a Monday statement to Daily Racing Form. “Gov. Greg Abbott has declared a disaster in more than a dozen Texas counties, including Gillespie. Our team is currently working with racetrack staff, horseman’s organizations, the Jockey’s Guild, and other stakeholders to reschedule race dates and hopefully resume live racing at Retama this weekend and continuing Gillespie’s upcoming calendar dates.

“We are actively assessing track surfaces, stall areas, camera equipment, and necessary infrastructure to make the rescheduling happen, while monitoring updated state and federal disaster declarations, road closures, and overall community impact.”

◗ Joseph Novogratz, Nik Goodwin, Carin Offerman, Jeff Maday, and Ready to Runaway are all set to be inducted into the Canterbury Park Hall of Fame on Friday. The track has a number of stakes-quality allowances on Saturday.
