Vasilika to stay home for Yellow Ribbon Handicap

Emily Shields Vasilika had been under consideration for the Beverly D. but will race at Del Mar instead.
ARCADIA, Calif. – Vasilika, the leading turf female in Southern California this year, is expected to make her next start in the Grade 2 Yellow Ribbon Handicap at 1 1/16 miles on turf at Del Mar on Aug. 3.
Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer considered sending Vasilika to the Grade 1 Beverly D. Stakes at Arlington Park on Aug. 10, but has elected to keep the 5-year-old mare in California with the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Santa Anita on Nov. 2 as a long-term goal.
“We’re doing good here,” Hollendorfer said of Vasilika’s success in California.
Vasilika won the Grade 1 Gamely Stakes at Santa Anita on May 27.
This year, Vasilika is unbeaten in four starts for the partnership of Mark Schlaich, Gatto Racing, George Todaro, and Hollendorfer.
