Vasilika possible for Megahertz Stakes

Vasilika, whose eight-race winning streak ended with a fourth-place finish in the Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes at Del Mar on Dec. 1, could have her first start of 2019 in the Grade 3 Megahertz Stakes at Santa Anita on Jan. 21.
Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said Friday that the $100,000 Megahertz at a mile on turf for fillies and mares is appealing because of the distance.
“We might look at that,” he said.
Vasilika was beaten two lengths by Uni in the $302,760 Matriarch Stakes at a mile on turf as the 2-1 favorite. Vasilika closed from sixth to race within a half-length of the lead in the stretch, but could not sustain the effort.
A 4-year-old filly by Skipshot, Vasilika was claimed for $40,000 last February. The win streak included three graded stakes, including the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive Stakes at Santa Anita in September.
