Vasilika, Danuska's My Girl drill at Los Al for Breeders' Cup

CYPRESS, Calif. – The multiple stakes winners Danuska’s My Girl and Vasilika had their final workouts for Breeders’ Cup races at Los Alamitos early Saturday.
Danuska’s My Girl, who will start in the BC Filly and Mare Sprint at seven furlongs on Saturday, worked three furlongs in 35 seconds from the gate in a solo workout.
Vasilika, a leading contender in the BC Filly and Mare Turf at 1 1/4 miles on Saturday, worked a half-mile in 48 seconds, also on her own.
Danuska’s My Girl has won her last three starts at Santa Anita, including two graded stakes. She won the Grade 3 Rancho Bernardo Handicap at 6 1/2 furlongs at Del Mar on Aug. 11, but was sixth in the Grade 2 TCA Stakes at six furlongs at Keeneland on Oct. 5.
Vasilika won the Grade 1 Gamely Stakes at 1 1/8 miles on turf at Santa Anita in May, and the Grade 2 John Mabee Stakes at that distance at Del Mar on Aug. 31. Vasilika was third in the Grade 1 First Lady Stakes at a mile on turf at Keeneland on Oct. 5, closing from 12th in a field of 13 to finish 3 3/4 lengths behind Uni, a contender in the BC Mile on Saturday.
In her last start at 1 1/4 miles on turf, Vasilika won the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive Stakes at Santa Anita in September 2018.
Danuska’s My Girl and Vasilika are officially trained by Dan Ward, a longtime assistant to Jerry Hollendorfer, whose horses have raced in Ward’s name at times in recent months. Hollendorfer was evicted from Santa Anita in June by track management after a fourth horse in his care suffered a fatal injury in a race or training since the start of the track’s winter-spring meeting last December.
Hollendorfer relocated his stable to Los Alamitos in June where it has been based in recent months aside from the final six weeks of the Del Mar summer meeting.
