Valid Pulpit wins Bayou City

Valid Pulpit won her second stakes in three starts Saturday night was she was up for a nose win over Simply Siber in the $35,000 for 3-year-old fillies at Sam Houston Race Park. It was another head back in third to Olguina.

Valid Pulpit($5.60), who three starts ago won the $54,000 Princess Handicap at Sunland Park, settled in fourth early behind Simply Siber in the Bayou City while that one led the field through fractions of 22.10 seconds for the opening quarter and 44.46 seconds for the half-mile mark. Valid Pulpit rallied through the stretch, and covered six furlongs over a track rated fast in 1:11.41.

Cliff Berry rode the winner for trainer Steve Asmussen.
