Upset Sorrento winner Vegas Magic will reappear in Del Mar Debutante
DEL MAR, Calif. – Vegas Magic, upset winner of the Grade 2 Sorrento Stakes for 2-year-old fillies Saturday, likely will make her next start in the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante, the meet’s championship race for that division, Sept. 10, according to trainer Doug O’Neill.
“I would think so,” O’Neill said. “I’ve got to huddle up with those owners, but that seems like the logical move.”
Vegas Magic, by Good Magic, is unbeaten in three starts. She was favored in her first two races, but was let go at 14-1 in the six-horse Sorrento, a race in which O’Neill had two other runners who disappointed.
Vegas Magic is owned by a partnership that includes Omar Aldabbagh, Todd Cady, and Ty Leatherman. Cady had a huge week, winning three races either alone or in partnership.
