DEL MAR, Calif. – Sunday’s closing day of the Del Mar autumn meeting begins with a carryover of $329,773 in the early 50 cent pick five. The carryover was clinched when Call Sign Seven ($139) recorded a surprise win in Saturday’s fifth race, the Grade 2 Seabiscuit Handicap on turf. The pool of new money on Sunday may exceed $2 million. The early pick five covers the first five races, which includes an allowance race for statebreds at 1 1/16 miles on turf, a maiden race for statebreds at 5 1/2 furlongs on dirt, the Grade 3 Cecil B. DeMille Stakes at a mile on turf, an allowance race for California-bred 2-year-old fillies at six furlongs, and a tricky running of the $100,000 Stormy Liberal Stakes at five furlongs on turf. Those races have fields of 9, 8, 7, 6, and 10 before scratches. Call Sign Seven was the shock winner of Saturday’s pick five, but wins from Miyako ($12.20) in the first race, and Total Val ($35.40) in the third race eliminated many tickets from contention. First post time on Sunday is 12:30 p.m. Pacific. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
