Uphold the Law tries to run record to 3 for 3 in allowance

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – A trio of allowance races highlight Sunday’s 10-race program, topped by a seven-furlong dash over the main track that lured a field of seven 4-year-olds and up, including the Florida-bred Uphold the Law, who will take on open company for the first time while trying to remain perfect in three starts.

Uphold the Law won his two outings by a combined 7 3/4 lengths with a gap of eight months between those races. Trained by Michael Stidham, the son of Upstart won his debut by 3 3/4 lengths here in March, then returned on Nov. 14 to win a restricted first-level allowance race by four lengths. The 86 Beyer Speed Figure he earned for that victory is the best last-out number in this field.

Uphold the Law will take on several vastly more seasoned rivals in the $61,000 race, led by the 9-year-old Town Classic. A seven-time winner of more than $400,000, Town Classic was re-claimed by trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. for $25,000 out of a second-place finish on Oct. 8 at Keeneland. Town Classic was third behind winner Firenze Fire in the Grade 3 Runhappy at Belmont Park in May. He will race with blinkers off on Sunday.

Seven older fillies and mares will go a mile and 70 yards over the Tapeta course in Sunday’s ninth race, with the Chad Brown-trained French invader Dream of Change likely to attract plenty of attention in her U.S. debut. She will be joined by stablemate Editor At Large, who is making just her second start since finishing seventh in the 2020 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, and her first since running sixth in an allowance at Keeneland in April.
