The track at Belmont Park on Sunday is sloppy and there will be no turf racing. This article has been updated to refelct those changes. Sunday is not an easy day at Belmont Park. I think a lot of the races are wide open. I am going to try to key a pick three on races 4-6 around Unbridled Juan in the final leg. To do that, I am going to forgive Unbridled Juan for his last race, a first-level optional claimer at 1 1/16 miles over Polytrack at Woodbine. He finished third in an oddly run race at 15 cents on the dollar. Unbridled Juan stalked a slow pace that day. The winner, Field of Courage, sensing the pace was slow, slingshot to the lead three wide nearing the far turn and opened up. Unbridled Juan picked up his tempo to go after him, bid between horses in upper stretch, but was outfinished in the final furlong and was beaten 1 3/4 lengths. The fractions in the slow-early, fast-late race were 24.73 seconds, 50.14, 1:14.07, 1:37.87, and 1:44.19, meaning Field of Courage got his final three furlongs in 30.12, a pretty quick clip. What I do like about Unbridled Juan is his one-mile maiden win at Gulfstream Park two starts back. He earned a 94 Beyer Speed Figure in that race while winning by seven lengths. The runner-up, Wisecracker, came back to win a 1 1/16-mile maiden race at Keeneland for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. The second-place horse in Wisecracker's win was Japan, who has since won a Churchill Downs maiden race and the Easy Goer Stakes at Belmont Park for Bill Mott. Unbridled Juan has worked four times for trainer Brian Lynch since his third-place finish, once over Polytrack at Woodbine and three times on dirt at Belmont. I expect him to improve markedly Sunday and will single him in my pick three. I don’t have any strong opinions in the first two legs and am going to spread and cross my fingers. My play is going to be $38. I am going to play my “A” runners on a $2 ticket and my sub-tickets on $1 tickets. I will only be able to go to my “B” horses once. My $38 play is going to look like this: Race 4 A: 5-6-11 B: 1-10 Race 5 A: 2-3-4-6 B: 5-8 Race 6 A: 6 The individual tickets are: All “A” runners, $2 tickets: 5-6-11/2-3-4-6/6 - $24 Use “B” runners in race 4, $1 tickets: 1-10/2-3-4-6/6 - $8 Use “B” runners in race 5, $1 tickets: 5-6-11/5-8/6 - $6 :: Bet Belmont Park with DRF Bets and get FREE access to this article and all of DRF Plus, including Belmont selections, video, and real-time analysis. :: Build your pick three ticket with DRF TicketMaker | DRF TicketMaker (Mobile)
