Unusual Heat’s fee to remain at $20,000

Multiple stakes winner Unusual Heat, a perennial leading sire in California, will stand the 2014 breeding season at Harris Farms in Coalinga, Calif., for an advertised fee of $20,000, the same fee as last year, to approved mares only.

The 23-year-old son of Nureyev has sired 13 crops of racing age, led by champion Acclamation, Grade 1 winners The Usual Q. T., Golden Doc A, and Unusual Suspect, Grade 2 winners Lethal Heat and Tucked Away, and Grade 3 winner Lightmyfirebaby. His top runners for 2013 include stakes winner and multiple Grade 2-placed He Be Fire N Ice, multiple stakes winners Surfcup and Unusual Hottie, and stakes winners and Grade 2-placed Unusual Way and Gervinho.

Unusual Heat became California’s all-time leading sire by progeny earnings in 2008, and is a six-time leading sire of California-breds.

Unusual Heat won six of 16 starts during his racing career, running primarily in Ireland, for earnings of $142,605. He was a three-time stakes winner in Ireland.

Bred in Kentucky by John T. L. Jones Jr., Unusual Heat is out of the Danish and Swedish champion Glacial mare Rossard, who was also a Grade 1 winner in the U.S.
