Untitled gets 98 Beyer in debut

Ralph Nicks said he will proceed judiciously with Untitled, a 2-year-old colt who earned a 98 Beyer Speed Figure when debuting Saturday with an 11-length victory in a six-furlong maiden race for Florida-breds.
Untitled finished in 1:10.17, yielding the second-highest Beyer among all 2-year-olds in the United States so far this year. The highest is a 101 by Independence Hall in the Nashua at Aqueduct.
“They’re not supposed to run that fast first out,” Nicks said. “Assuming he stays with me, we’ll let a few weeks go by before we decide what’s next. As good as he looks and by the way he trained, we thought he’d run well, although you never expect something like that. Now’s the time to be smart with how you proceed.”
Untitled is by the young sire Khozan and is owned in partnership by his breeders – Brent and Crystal Fernung and the father-son team of Mike (Sr.) and Mike (Jr.) Sebastian.
“Their phones have been ringing, mine’s been ringing,” Nicks said Wednesday in reference to inquiries about the possibility of a private purchase. “He’s in my barn for now.”
