Untapable to Spinster; Furia Cruzada out of Distaff

Untapable, the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner and champion 3-year-old filly, will prep for the 2015 Distaff by running in the Grade 1 Spinster Stakes on Oct. 4 at Keeneland.
Trainer Steve Asmussen confirmed Tuesday that Untapable will prep for the Distaff by racing for the first time at Keeneland, where the Breeders’ Cup will be held for the first time on Oct. 30-31. Untapable is based at Churchill Downs. She worked five furlongs Monday morning in 1:02.
Untapable remains among the leading Distaff contenders, though she has won just one of five starts this year. Untapable won the Grade 1 Apple Blossom on April 10 at Oaklawn and placed in four graded stakes this year. In her most recent start Aug. 29 at Saratoga, Untapable finished third in the Grade 1 Personal Ensign, won by Sheer Drama.
During her 2014 championship season, Untapable won 6 of 7, including the Kentucky Oaks and BC Distaff at Santa Anita. Owned by Winchell Farm, Untapable has won nine races and $3,716,725 from 16 starts.
Furia Cruzada to miss Distaff
There has been one key defection from the BC Distaff. Breeders’ Cup officials confirmed Tuesday that South American-based Furia Cruzada, winner of a Breeders’ Cup Challenge race in Argentina this spring, will not make the race.
Furia Cruzada won the Group 1 Gran Premio Criadores on May 1 at Hipodromo de Palermo to earn a berth in the BC Distaff. Furia Cruzada is a three-time Group 1 winner.
