ARCADIA, Calif. - Unrivaled Time needed only a bit of warmup before returning to the winner’s circle for the first time since November in Saturday’s $127,500 Snow Chief Stakes at Santa Anita. Unrivaled Time was ninth in a field of 10 until the end of the backstretch in the Snow Chief Stakes when he began to rapidly close ground. Racing wide through the stretch, Unrivaled Time caught the eye with a steady rally. He passed pacesetter Trump Era in the final strides to win by a head in his first start in three months. The outcome provided winning rider Armando Ayuso with a sense of relief. “For the first half-mile, I wasn’t happy with it,” Ayuso said. “I was worried about it. I didn’t want to be too far back. “In the last half-mile, he had a lot of momentum.” Unrivaled Time was fourth with a furlong remaining, racing 2 1/2 lengths behind Trump Era. “He gained his stride and kept going,” Ayuso said of the stretch run. Unrivaled Time, starting in the longest race of his career, ran 1 1/8 miles on turf in 1:48.04. Unrivaled Time earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 76. Trump Era finished three-quarters of a length in front of 5-1 Ventry Strand, who closed from eighth in the final furlong. Third Beer finished fourth, followed by He’s a Knockout, Scatalotadingdong, John Metcalfe, Fionello, Wave With Envy and Smoovin Saturday. The Snow Chief Stakes for 3-year-olds was the fifth and final stakes for statebreds on Saturday’s program. Unrivaled Time paid $6 as the second choice and was the only non-favorite to win a stakes. The complexion of the Snow Chief changed considerably at the start when 3-2 favorite He’s a Knockout had a troubled start. Instead of setting the pace as expected, He’s a Knockout stalked 26-1 Trump Era through a solid pace of 23.27 seconds for the opening quarter-mile and 46.89 for a half-mile. He’s a Knockout moved alongside Trump Era on the turn into a contending position, but was unable to sustain the effort. Unrivaled Time, by Not This Time, has won 3 of 6 starts and earned $185,000. Trained by Leonard Powell, Unrivaled Time races for Sonny Pais and Innergy Racing Corp. Pais bred Unrivaled Time, who won the Grade 3 Cecil B. DeMille Stakes for 2-year-olds at a mile on turf at Del Mar last November. Earlier this year, Unrivaled Time ran in two stakes for 3-year-olds at a mile on turf against open company – a third in the Eddie Logan Stakes in January and a sixth-place finish in a field of nine in the Pasadena Stakes on Feb. 22. Mohaven wins Route Debut in Melair Proven in dirt sprints, Mohaven showed her effectiveness at a longer distance for the first time with an easy win in Saturday’s $125,500 Melair Stakes for 3-year-old statebred fillies at 1 1/16 miles. The Melair Stakes was the longest race for Mohaven in her seventh start. She won the Golden State Juvenile Fillies at seven furlongs by 4 1/4 lengths at Del Mar last October, and her second start of 2026 in the Evening Jewel Stakes for statebred fillies at 6 1/2 furlongs by five lengths on April 4. Mohaven led throughout the Melair, winning by six lengths as the favorite. She paid $3.20 to win. The win will not lead to a career change for Mohaven. Trainer John Sadler said in the winner’s circle that Mohaven’s next start is likely to be the $150,000 Fleet Treat Stakes at seven furlongs for statebred 3-year-old fillies at Del Mar on July 24. Mohaven was timed in 1:44.89 in the Melair and earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 75. Ridden by Emisael Jaramillo, Mohaven led narrowly on the first turn, and by a half-length on the backstretch through early fractions of 23.51 seconds for the first quarter-mile and 47.40 for a half-mile. The trailing pack could not get closer. Mohaven led by two lengths on the turn and by five lengths with a furlong remaining. Cecilia Street (14-1) was second throughout, and finished a neck in front of 2-1 Run With Liberty, who was fourth for much of the race. Lino’s Angel finished fourth, followed by Troisieme Etoile, and Good Golly Dolly. Holdthatrainbow was scratched. Mohaven, by Yaupon, races for Legacy Ranch. She has won 4 of 7 starts and earned $334,750. Mohaven has finished first or second in all of her starts other than her lone race on turf, a fifth-place finish in the Sweet Life Stakes at about 6 1/2 furlongs on the hillside course in February. “She’s been really consistent, other than the one turf race,” Sadler said. Mohaven was Sadler’s second stakes win on Saturday’s program. Earlier, the Sadler-trained Flyover won the Crystal Water Stakes for turf milers. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
