Unlucky afternoon for both Felicianos

Saturday was a difficult day for trainer Benny Feliciano. His nine-race winning streak came to an end when Clever Jimmy C. finished second in the 13th race at Thistledown, and his son, jockey Ricardo Feliciano, was injured in a spill earlier on the card.

Ricardo Feliciano, who had ridden all nine winners during his father's streak, was thrown hard to the ground in the third race when his mount, S.R. Alladin Girl, broke down in midstretch. Feliciano injured his left shoulder in the incident.

Benny Feliciano, whose winning streak dated to Oct. 20, replaced his son with Rigo Sarmiento on Clever Jimmy C., who broke in front in the 11-horse field and set the pace until about 40 yards from the wire of the six-furlong race. He was passed by B.D. Victor, who won by 1 1/2 lengths.

Clever Jimmy C., the 9-5 favorite, was claimed for $3,500 out of the race, reducing Feliciano's stable to one horse.
