United Patriot pulls away in Cherokee Nation Classic Cup

United Patriot won the second stakes race of his career Tuesday, when he pulled clear by 3 1/4 lengths in the $55,000 Cherokee Nation Classic Cup at Will Rogers Downs. Kwik finished second after contesting the pace, while it was another 5 3/4 lengths back in third to Gospel Abe.
The Cherokee Nation Classic Cup was for 3-year-olds and up bred in Oklahoma. It was the final stakes of the Will Rogers meet that closes Wednesday.
United Patriot ($5.80) settled in sixth Tuesday as Quality Rocket and Kwik dueled through fractions of 23.16 seconds for the opening quarter, 46.94 for the half-mile, and 1:12.04 for six furlongs. United Patriot moved in on the leaders on the final turn and then moved past them at the top of the stretch, going on to cover the 1 1/16 miles on a fast track in 1:44.03.
Jockey Lori Biehler was aboard the winner for her husband, trainer Mike Biehler.
United Patriot is a 5-year-old son of Flat Out who races for Larry Foos and Troy Cartmill. He earned $33,000 for his win Tuesday to improve his career record to 10 for 28 for earnings of $282,410.
