ELMONT, N.Y. – Unified, unbeaten in three starts, all around one turn, is set for his two-turn debut in the Grade 3, $150,000 Pegasus Stakes for 3-year-olds going 1 1/16 miles at Monmouth Park on June 19 following a fast workout on the Belmont Park main track Friday morning. Unified, working alone, was caught by Daily Racing Form going six furlongs in 1:11.80, with a seven-furlong gallop-out in 1:25.80. Exercise rider Kelvin Pahal, who was aboard the older horse Effinex earlier in the morning, was up. The work came after the renovation break, while Exaggerator – the Belmont Stakes favorite – was out for his final gallop. Trainer Jimmy Jerkens liked the way Unified polished off his work. “He finished up good,” said Jerkens, who also trains Effinex. Effinex worked five furlongs in 1:01 on the training track in preparation for the Stephen Foster Handicap at Churchill Downs on June 18. ◗ The outstanding female turf sprinter Lady Shipman, in her first drill since taking the listed The Very One Stakes at Pimlico on Preakess Day, May 21, worked a half-mile on the training track in 48.40 seconds on Friday for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. – additional reporting by Michael Vesce
