Unified done for the year

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The multiple-graded-stakes-winning 3-year-old Unified will not race again this year and has been sent to Centennial Farms in Middleburg, Va., for a break, trainer Jimmy Jerkens said.
“Nothing really glaring, just a lot of little things,” Jerkens said when asked why Unified is out for the season. “Hard races and hard training. He’ll be all right though.”
Unified, a son of Candy Ride, began his career at Gulfstream Park in February with a three-length victory while running six furlongs in 1:08.95.
Unified then won the Grade 3 Bay Shore at Aqueduct and the Grade 2 Peter Pan at Belmont. His connections decided to pass on the Belmont Stakes and tried him around two turns in the Grade 3 Pegasus at Monmouth, where he finished fifth.
Unified did work once after the Pegasus, but the plug was pulled thereafter.
“He just looked like he needed a break,” Jerkens said. “He had a lot thrown at him in a short time.”
Jerkens said he would likely pick Unified back up in December when he heads to Palm Meadows in south Florida.
◗ “Saratoga Live” on Saturday will add 30 minutes to its broadcast and include three Grade 1 races from Arlington Park – the Million, Beverly D., and Secretariat – in addition to the Grade 1 Fourstardave and Grade 2 Adirondack from Saratoga.
Saratoga Live will air from 4-7 p.m. Eastern on MSG+, from 4:30-7 p.m. on Fox Sports 2, and from 5-7 p.m. on the Altitude Sports Network.
