Unforgettable U eyes Santa Monica Stakes
CYPRESS, Calif. – Unforgettable U will be pointed to stakes at the Santa Anita winter-spring meeting after winning an optional claimer Thursday at Los Alamitos. The victory was the second in her last four starts.
Unforgettable U dueled on the lead with Windy Forecast for the opening quarter-mile before taking a commanding lead. She drew away from five rivals in the long stretch to win by 9 1/2 lengths, running six furlongs in 1:08.67.
Trainer Richard Baltas said Unforgettable U will be considered for the $200,000 Santa Monica Stakes for fillies and mares at seven furlongs Jan. 23 at Santa Anita. Owned by breeder Shawn Mojallali, Unforgettable U has won 3 of 12 starts and earned $145,258.
Unforgettable U won an optional claimer at six furlongs by 7 1/4 lengths Sept. 7 at Del Mar and was fourth in her next two starts – the Grade 3 L.A. Woman Stakes at Santa Anita in October and an optional claimer at five furlongs on turf Nov. 22 at Del Mar.
“We tried her on the turf, but it looked like she was just spinning her wheels,” said Baltas. “She looks like a dirt horse.”
