ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Dolce Fortuna puts her unbeaten record on the line in Thursday’s Woodbine headliner and should be favored in the first-level allowance with a $32,000 claiming option.
Owned and bred by the partnership of Di Scola Boys Stable and trainer Josie Carroll, Dolce Fortuna debuted late in her 2-year-old season in December 2024. After a slow beginning, she rallied from fifth to prevail by a head in the six-furlong sprint on Tapeta, over which she has made all three of her starts.
Dolce Fortuna ran a corker when resurfacing in May 2025 in a nonwinners-of-two Ontario-sired allowance. She darted out to a clear early lead and then widened her advantage through the stretch to score by 5 1/2 lengths going the 6 1/2-furlong distance of Thursday’s race. Her final time of 1:17 translated into an 83 Beyer Speed Figure.
Dolce Fortuna has been sidelined since winning an Ontario-sired nonwinners-of-three allowance in front-running style last June. She only got a 71 Beyer when winning the 6 1/2-furlong event by a nose as the favorite under regular rider Ryan Munger.
Dolce Fortuna has worked weekly since April 27. She drilled a quick five furlongs in 59.80 seconds on June 12 and breezed an easy half in 48.80 last Thursday under the watchful eye of Carroll, who has a 24 percent strike rate with six-month-plus layoff runners.
Rounding out the seven-horse field of fillies and mares are I Got Murphed, Super Sicily, Speedy Freeze, Fourfiftyfour, Miramichi, and Rarefied.
I Got Murphed used her tactical speed to clear the two Ontario-sired allowance conditions following a winter vacation in May. She led all the way to win over seven furlongs May 30 while getting a career-best 70 Beyer.
Tino Attard trains I Got Murphed, who is the 125-pound highweight under leading rider Pietro Moran.
Super Sicily has raced regularly since the Florida-bred was claimed for $25,000 here Nov. 7. She was competitive in three consecutive Tapeta excursions at Gulfstream over the winter and was a belated third at this level here April 18.
After ending up second May 15, Super Sicily won another $25,000 claimer June 7, during which she rallied four wide from seventh over an inside-favoring track to score with a 71 Beyer. Leo Salles, who has been heating up at the meet, will ride her again for owner-trainer Mike DePaulo.
Speedy Freeze peaked last August when she narrowly lost a starter handicap on the inner turf before taking the seven-furlong Algoma Stakes for graduates of Canadian yearling sales. She tailed off in the fall but was along for third in her May 31 season debut and should be fitter for the experience.
Fourfiftyfour mounted a mild wide bid over a track that favored speed and inside runners when fourth behind Speedy Freeze in her comeback.
Miramichi never challenged during a wide trip in a recent inner turf experiment and is back on her preferred surface.
Rarified finished third and 10th after flashing early foot in her two starts since getting claimed for $25,000 on April 18.
Post time for the seven-race card is 3 p.m.
