ARCADIA, Calif. – Uncle Lino, who set the pace in the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico on May 21 before fading to seventh, will be turned out this summer. Trainer Gary Sherlock said he was unsure how long Uncle Lino would be rested. “We’ll give him a few months,” he said. “I don’t know how long.” Uncle Lino was vanned off the track after the Preakness Stakes. Sherlock did not elaborate on the reason for that. By Uncle Mo, Uncle Lino has won 2 of 8 starts and $316,160. The colt won the California Chrome Stakes at Los Alamitos on April 30 and was third behind Preakness winner Exaggerator in the $1 million Santa Anita Derby on April 9. ◗ Santa Anita is adjusting its first post from 2 p.m. Pacific to 1:30 p.m., beginning Thursday, for the remainder of the spring-summer meeting, which runs through July 10. There is a noon first post time June 11 to coincide with the simulcast of the Belmont Stakes from New York. Track officials are hoping an earlier post time will boost handle. Through Monday, ontrack handle was down 3 percent from a comparable period in 2015 and down 2 percent with satellite and account-wagering sources included. Attendance has shown a gain of 6 percent, track officials said.
