Debra A. Roma Catherinethegreat wins the Grade 3 Schuylerville on opening day of the Saratoga meet.

Canadian champion Uncaptured got his own racing career off to a swift start with a stellar season as a juvenile. Now a young stallion at Ocala Stud, he started his stud career in fitting fashion, finishing as Florida’s leading freshman sire of 2018.

Uncaptured, by Lion Heart, recorded eight individual winners from 26 first-crop starters for earnings of $584,829. That bankroll also placed him 10th among living sires on the national freshman earnings list, and third among all Florida sires by juvenile earnings behind Brethren and Adios Charlie.

Uncaptured was led by Catherinethegreat, who followed a 10 1/4-length maiden special weight victory at Gulfstream Park with a 4 1/4-length score in the Grade 3 Schuylerville Stakes at Saratoga. The stallion also had stakes winners Bye Bye J and Capture Your Dream in his first crop.

Uncaptured was Canada’s Horse of the Year at 2, when he won 6 of 7 starts during the 2012 season. A three-time stakes winner at Woodbine, he shipped to Kentucky that fall to take the Grade 3 Iroquois and the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill Downs. He went on to become a Canadian classic winner, taking the 2013 Prince of Wales Stakes, the middle leg of the Canadian Triple Crown, and was graded stakes-placed at ages 3 and 4. Overall, he won 7 of 18 starts and attained millionaire status.

Brethren leading juvenile sire

Brethren, a half-brother to Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver, won both his starts as a juvenile. The young Arindel Farm stallion’s progeny have proven similarly precocious, as he finished as Florida’s leading juvenile sire of 2018.

Brethren, by Distorted Humor, was represented by 2-year-olds who earned $1,532,413 in 2018, making him the state’s only juvenile sire to pass the seven-figure threshold. His runners were led by Cookie Dough, who won the Florida Sire Series Susan’s Girl and My Dear Girl divisions at Gulfstream Park.

Brethren won the Grade 3 Sam F. Davis Stakes as a 3-year-old in 2011 and the Evangeline Mile Stakes in 2013. He placed in three other stakes. He and Super Saver also are from the family of champion and multiple stakes producer Numbered Account, champion and sire Rhythm, Grade 1 winner and prominent sire Private Account, Maryland leading sire Not For Love, and additional Grade 1 winners Bluegrass Cat, Callback, Dance Number, Frost Giant, Get Lucky, Girolamo, Got Lucky, and Imagining.
