Unbeaten Our Lost Love may race on week's rest in Louisiana Jewel

The undefeated 2-year-old filly Our Lost Love has conquered both dirt and turf. The next frontier comes Friday night, when she moves to two turns for the $100,000 Louisiana Jewel at Delta Downs. The seven-furlong race is for 2-year-old fillies bred in Louisiana.

Our Lost Love won her debut in a maiden special weight over five furlongs on turf in September at Louisiana Downs. She earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 83, the highest number of any 2-year-old who has raced in the Southwest states so far in 2019. Our Lost Love backed up the effort with a conditioned allowance win on dirt, wiring her rivals earlier this month at Delta.

“She does everything right, whatever you ask of her,” said Joey Foster, who trains Our Lost Love. “She’s just a laid back, nice type of filly. In the morning, she’s just so easy to handle, goes out there and relaxes, and that’s why I think she’ll go a little further. She’s not a speedball-acting kind of filly.”

Our Lost Love’s allowance win came over three of the nine rivals she will face in the Jewel. The start came a week ago, on Oct. 11, and because the Jewel comes up quick she’s not certain to start, Foster said.

“It depends on how she talks to us,” he said Tuesday. “We went back to the track today, and she was good. We’ll just make a decision later on.

“If we run in here, she’ll have a little break between now and the Fair Grounds.”

Our Lost Love is a daughter of Half Ours who races for her breeder, Tri-Star Racing. Alex Castillo has the mount from post 5.

Sarah’s Passion could be the chief threat. She’s the lone stakes winner in the field by virtue of her July 5 win in a $75,000 division of the D.S. “Shine” Young Futurity at Evangeline Downs. She won her maiden in the race and one start later ran second in the $50,000 Louisiana Cup Juvenile Fillies at Louisiana Downs. Sarah’s Passion finished second to Our Lost Love in the Oct. 11 allowance.

Colby Hernandez has the mount from the rail for Perform Stables and trainer Ricky Courville.
