Ah Jeez and Tall Boy, who finished ninth and last in a field of 13 in the Group 2 United Arab Emirates Derby at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai last Saturday, are likely bound for Grade 2 stakes worth $500,000 at Churchill Downs on May 6.
Trainer Doug O’Neill said on Thursday that Ah Jeez will be considered for the American Turf Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on turf, while Tall Boy is a candidate for the Pat Day Mile on dirt.
Tall Boy’s only win came in the Group 3 UAE 2000 Guineas at a mile on dirt at Meydan in February. Ah Jeez, third in the Speakeasy Stakes for 2-year-old turf sprinters at Santa Anita last October, won an allowance race at seven furlongs on dirt at Meydan in February in his first start in Dubai.
