U R All That I Am benefits from stalking trip

Steve Andersen|May 23, 2010

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Quick thinking by leading jockey Rafael Bejarano on U R All That I Am in Sunday's at Hollywood Park saved the race for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.

Bejarano guided U R All That I Am to a stalking position behind pacesetter Woman Warrior in the first turn of the one mile turf race. Hollendorfer thought the strategy helped U R All That I Am run past Woman Warrior in the stretch on her way to a comfortable 2 1/4-length win.

"The race was won out of the gate when Rafael adjusted," Hollendorfer said. "He saw that he could lay second easily and that was a huge part of the race."

Hollendorfer was hoping for a one-two finish but 4-5 favorite You Lift Me Up could only finish fourth after a wide trip. "I was hoping our other filly would run better than she did, but she didn't fire for some reason," Hollendorfer said. "I'm grateful we had U R All That I Am in there."

You Lift Me Up's off-the-board finish led to massive show payoffs, since the favorite attracted $143,484 of the $168,614 bet to show. U R All That I Am paid $6.20 to win and $7.80 to show. Woman Warrior, who held second, paid $21.40 to show, while Salty Fries, who was third, 3 1/2 lengths behind Woman Warrior in the field of five California-bred females, paid $25.20 to show.

U R All That I Am was timed in 1:34.63. A 4-year-old filly by Valid Wager, U R All That I Am races for breeders Tom and Debbie Stull's Tommy Town Thoroughbreds of Santa Ynez, Calif. U R All That I Am has won 8 of 15 starts and $307,628.

U R All That I Am is perfect in her last three starts at Hollywood Park. She won the Cat's Cradle Handicap here on the main track last November and the B Thoughtful Stakes here last month. Her immediate future is on the grass, though

"We think she might be a little better on turf," Hollendorfer said.
