Two-for-two Punchbowl will try Fantasy or Ashland next

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Punchbowl will advance to a Kentucky Oaks points race after improving her career mark to 2 for 2 last weekend at Oaklawn Park.
Trainer Brad Cox said Tuesday that Punchbowl is to make her next start in either the Grade 3, $600,000 Fantasy on April 1 at Oaklawn or the Grade 1, $600,000 Ashland on April 7 at Keeneland.
Punchbowl won at the 1 1/16-mile distance of both of those races on March 5, when she shuttled to a 4 1/4-length victory in a first-level allowance. For the effort, Punchbowl earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 89.
“She came out of it in good order,” Cox said. “First test around two turns, first run around two turns, I think she got something out of it mentally and physically. We’re looking forward to her racing this spring. She’s a talented filly, with a bright future.”
Punchbowl debuted on Feb. 11 at Oaklawn and put in a stunning stretch run to win from last in a field of 12. The maiden special weight was run over six furlongs. She won on a wet track that afternoon and on a fast surface March 5.
Punchbowl is a Gary and Mary West homebred by Uncle Mo.
