Two turns on horizon for Hypersport

Hypersport was an outstanding maiden special weight winner Dec. 3 at Oaklawn, when the 2-year-old daughter of Blame covered six furlongs in 1:09.66. One race later, the $150,000 Advent Stakes for 2-year-olds went in 1:09.97.
Hypersport set a quick pace and went on to a four-length win in her race, and for the effort earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 88.
“I definitely think she’s a stakes filly,” trainer Ingrid Mason said. “I’ve thought that about her for a while. I think she’ll be able to carry her speed, and that’s exciting. When I talk about her, she’s equal to Sarah [Sis] in her training and ability. She might even be better. Time will tell. She’s very exciting to me.”
Mason trained Sarah Sis, a multiple Grade 2 winner who ran out $912,667.
Hypersport, who in her only other start was second in a maiden special weight at Keeneland, could see two-turn action in the near future.
“We’re just kind of letting her decide what she wants to do,” Mason said. “We haven’t been directly pointing her to a race. I’d stretch her out in an allowance race before I’d run in a stakes. We’ll see how the timing and everything goes, and with how she comes back. She definitely came out bouncing, is very happy, very healthy.”
Mike Waters purchased Hypersport as a yearling for $100,000 at Keeneland September in 2020. Mason said he named her for an exclusive sports car – the Lykan Hypersport. There are just seven “units” of the vehicle “in existence,” according to the website of manufacturer W Motors.
Waters and Mason have a horse named Lykan running in the featured eighth race Friday at Oaklawn.
