Two-time Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Conduit represented by first winner

Two-time Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Conduit was represented by his first winner on Aug. 17 when Meine Valiente captured a maiden race at Kokura in Japan.

Meine Valiente, a 2-year-old filly owned by K. Thoroughbred Club Ruffian, won by 3 1/2 lengths, finishing 1,200 meters (about six furlongs) in 1:08.30. It was her second career start; she finished third in her debut last month.

Bred by Big Red Farm, which stands Conduit, Meine Valiente is out of the Group 3-winning Meiner Love mare Cosmo Valenti. She is a half-sister to Group 3 winner Dream Valentino and Group 3-placed winner Meine Schokolade.

Conduit, based in Europe during his racing days, invaded the U.S. to capture back-to-back editions of the Breeders’ Cup Turf in 2008 and 2009, both at Santa Anita’s Oak Tree meeting. He was also a top-level performer in England, capturing the Group 1 Ladbrokes St. Leger in 2008 and the Group 1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes the following season. The son of Dalakhani retired with seven wins from 15 career starts for earnings of $5,815,813.

Conduit, who was bred in Ireland by Ballymacoll Stud Farm, Ltd., has 88 2-year-olds in his first crop. Nineteen have started as of Aug. 19.
