Two tie for fastest furlong on first day of OBS spring under-tack show

Joe Nevills|Apr 16, 2018

The first of six days of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. spring 2-year-olds in training sale was led on Monday by a pair of juveniles who breezed an eighth of a mile in 10 seconds flat.

The horses breezed over the Ocala Training Center’s all-weather Safetrack surface.

– Hip 127, a Quality Road filly out of the unplaced Unbridled's Song mare Bridles Prayer. Her second dam is the Grade 1 winner River's Prayer, while Grade 3-placed stakes winner Never Round and stakes winner Desert Whirlwind are in the extended family.

The bay filly was bred in Kentucky by Chester and Anne Prince, and she was an $80,000 RNA at last year’s Keeneland September yearling sale. King's Equine consigns the filly, as agent.

– Hip 144, a first-crop Strong Mandate colt, and the first foal out of the winning Majestic Warrior mare Callous Effect. His third dam is Grade 1 winner Pharma, his fourth dam is English champion sprinter Committed, and the page also features Grade 2 winner Hap and stakes winners Miss Frost, Christina Hundred, Wooing, and Committed Dancer.

Bred in Kentucky by Robert Lail, the colt sold for $60,000 at the 2017 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall yearling sale. Randy Miles consigns the colt, as agent.

Monday’s fastest juvenile at a quarter-mile was Hip 30, a filly by The Factor who went in 21 1/5 seconds.

The gray or roan filly is out of the Grade 3-winning Saint Anddan mare Another Romance, who is the dam of one winner from one foal to race. The extended family includes Grade 1-placed stakes winner Sans Critique and Grade 2-placed stakes winner Tax Affair.

Gunpowder Farms bred the gray or roan filly in Kentucky, and she sold for $35,000 at last year’s Keeneland September yearling sale. Eddie Woods consigns the filly, as agent.

The OBS spring under-tack show continues daily through Saturday, with a start time of 8 a.m. Eastern. The auction will be held April 24-27, starting each day at 10:30 a.m. Eastern.
