Two-stakes day leaves David speechless

MIAMI – Trainer Carlos David continued his outstanding Gulfstream Park West meeting when he sent out back-to-back Florida-bred stakes winners Saturday – the undefeated 2-year-old Shea D Summer in the 6 1/2-furlong Juvenile Fillies Sprint and the much-improved 3-year-old Legal Deal in the six-furlong Millions Sprint Preview.
“Two in one day, I have no words for that,” said the 37-year-old David, who is tied for fourth in the standings by wins, 10, and second in purses earned during the first six weeks of the meet. “I’m feeling blessed and thankful I have such an amazing team as well as the horses and people backing me up.”

Shea D Summer won for the second time in as many starts, leading at every call before drawing away to a 6 3/4-length victory in the Juvenile Fillies Sprint.
“I didn’t want to be on the lead, but it worked out that way the way the track was,” David said after the race. “We’ll see how she comes out of the race. She was breathing pretty hard after running in 1:17. She gave it her all. I’ll give her 30 days and see what’s in store at the Championship Meet at Gulfstream.”
Legal Deal got up in the final stride while racing out in the middle of the track to nip multiple stakes winner Jackson in the Sprint Preview. The outing was the third for Legal Deal since he was claimed by David for $12,500 out of a win at Gulfstream three months earlier. His winning Beyer Speed Figure on Saturday matched the career-high 88 he registered when second against statebred allowance company just three weeks earlier.
