ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Kevin Attard won last year’s Woodstock Stakes with the future King’s Plate winner and Canadian champion Mansetti. The 2024 Sovereign Award-winning trainer has Two Out Hero in this year’s Woodstock on Sunday, when the son of War Front cuts back to six furlongs in the $125,000 event for 3-year-olds. Two Out Hero made quite a splash when debuting here last July, winning a six-furlong maiden special on the Tapeta by 12 lengths. He doubled up in the 6 1/2-furlong Soaring Free Stakes on the main turf and then closed his juvenile season in September by running third in the Grade 1 Summer over a mile. Off a five-month layoff Feb. 21, Two Out Hero wound up ninth from post 11 in the John Battaglia Memorial Stakes at Turfway Park. When moving out a sixteenth to 1 1/8 miles a month later there in another Tapeta tilt, the Grade 3 Jeff Ruby Steaks, he finished a well-beaten seventh behind Fulleffort. Attard has solid numbers when going route to sprint, and Two Out Hero figures to find his calling around one turn. “I personally think he is” better sprinting, Attard said. “There were a couple of tough [route] assignments he faced. The first one coming off the bench and then stretching out to a mile and an eighth. I think he’s going to appreciate coming back home and cutting back to a sprint. :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! I’m just hoping we were experimenting with something he doesn’t like.” Rafael Hernandez, who was aboard for all but Two Out Hero’s last race, has the mount for owner Al Gold’s Gold Square. Rounding out the compact field are Gnome, Arbiter, Silver Is Best, and the supplemented maiden El Capo. Gnome won a pair of Tapeta sprints in January at his Turfway base in his only races with Lasix. When boosted up to stakes company, Gnome ran fifth in the Feb. 16 Ozark Stakes on the dirt at Oaklawn Park. The son of Tapiture is coming off a distant third in the March 21 Animal Kingdom Stakes at Turfway. “I’m trying to keep him on the synthetic or maybe turf,” trainer Kelsey Danner said. “He’s a nice colt. He’s doing well.” Sofia Vives has the mount on Gnome. She teamed up with Danner to capture the 2025 Star Shoot Stakes here with Brindi. Based at Keeneland, Arbiter won his debut on the Churchill Downs turf in November before doubling up in an allowance/optional claimer at Turfway in December. When exiting a four-month absence in the March 21 Texas Glitter Stakes on Tapeta at Gulfstream Park, he failed to flash his customary speed after an awkward break and checked in seventh. Lasix is added by trainer Wesley Ward. The Bill Tharrenos-trained Silver Is Best has been idle since a dull eighth-place finish in the Nov. 23 Clarendon Stakes. He defeated Ontario-sired opponents in the slowly run Bull Page Stakes in September. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
