HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Padiddle has won just once in 15 lifetime starts, although two of his 14 losses were third-place finishes behind the multiple Grade 1 winner Far Bridge earlier this season in the Grade 3 Pan American and Grade 2 Man o’ War stakes. Those three-turn performances could be enough to make the long-winded Padiddle a major player when stretching out to two miles Saturday at Gulfstream Park in the $100,000 H. Allen Jerkens Handicap. The Allen Jerkens drew just eight starters, with Risk Manager and Just Cause the 121-pound co-highweights and likely favorites. Padiddle was claimed for $25,000 by John Guarnere’s Imaginary Stables here in February and showed marked improvement when switched to the grass and stretched out to distances ranging from 1 3/8 miles to 1 3/4 miles during the spring and summer. :: Get Gulfstream Park Clocker Reports from Mike Welsch and the Clocker Team. Available every race day.  A son of Empire Maker, Padiddle was beaten just four lengths by Far Bridge in the 12-furlong Pan American on March 29 and finished six lengths back of that same foe going 1 3/8 miles six weeks later in the Man o’ War. Far Bridge is currently rated among the top 10 male turf horses in Daily Racing Form’s divisional ratings and could be pointed next to the Pegasus World Cup Turf here Jan. 24. Padiddle was trained by Fernando Abreu through mid-summer before being shipped to Andrew Simoff to run twice at Delaware Park. He has subsequently been sent back to South Florida for the winter and into the barn of Elizabeth Dobles, with whom Guarnere has had considerable success over the years. “When I made the claim, it was because his breeding analytics suggested he wanted to run on the turf and he won a maiden special weight on the grass right off the bat,” Guarnere said. “We ran him in a handful of longer races, he did real well, and although he wasn’t as successful in Delaware, we’ve had this race circled for a while. It was really a no-brainer to send him back down here because of the distance.” Summer Cause is the only member of the lineup to have previously competed at two miles, having finished a distant fourth behind runaway winner Fleetfoot in the John Forbes Memorial at Far Hills on Oct.18. Trained by Miguel Clement, who also conditions Far Bridge, Summer Cause was stakes-placed in his previous start going 1 1/2 miles at Monmouth Park when defeated 1 1/4 lengths by odds-on favorite Dripping Gold in the Presious Passion Stakes. The well-traveled turf specialist Risk Manager has already banked more than $235,000 this season for owner Case Chambers and trainer Mike Maker, the bulk of those earnings coming during a three-race winning streak that began Aug. 1 at Ellis Park and concluded nearly three months later with a last-to-first, half-length starter-allowance win going 1 1/16 miles at Aqueduct. Risk Manager’s best effort to date arguably came when stretching out to 1 5/16 miles to capture a high-priced, second-level optional-claiming and allowance race at Kentucky Downs for which he earned a near career-best 89 Beyer Speed Figure on Sept. 6. :: Play Gulfstream Park with confidence!
