Lone Star Park

Two Grade 1 winners in same trial for Texas Classic Futurity

Mary Rampellini|Oct 23, 2014

Lone Star Park will put on a dozen trials for the $1 million Texas Classic Futurity for Quarter Horses on Saturday night, but the focus will be on one race. Lovethewayyoulie and Rattle N Battle are the most accomplished runners on the card as Grade 1 winners, and both drew into trial No. 10.

The Texas Classic Futurity finale is Nov. 15. The 10 fastest qualifiers from Saturday night’s trials will advance to the Grade 1 that ranks as the state’s richest race. Lone Star’s program 400-yard trials starts at 6:35 p.m. Central.

Lovethewayyoulie has already won the richest race in Oklahoma. She accounted for the Grade 1, $1 million Heritage Place Futurity by a nose this past spring in a win that helped lift her earnings to $456,322. Rattle N Battle became a Grade 1 winner in his last start, when he captured the Dash For Cash Futurity at Lone Star Park.

Trials for the Grade 1, $400,000 Texas Classic Derby that will also be held on Nov. 15 at Lone Star are Friday night. There will be four trials, with the 440-yard races drawing a number of notable Quarter Horses.

The sixth race is led by Houdini, a millionaire who won the Grade 1 Rainbow Derby at Ruidoso Downs in July. In his most recent start he finished third as the favorite in the Grade 1 All American Derby.

In the seventh race, Separatist Firstdown will be going for his third straight win. Overall, he has compiled a record of 11 wins from 16 starts for earnings of $426,541.

The eighth race includes Ol Time Preacher Man, who won a restricted Grade 1 at Evangeline Downs, while the ninth is led by Won to Watch, who reeled off six straight wins in 2013.
