Two Golden Gate Fields jockeys fall

Chuck Dybdal|Mar 28, 2004

ALBANY, Calif. - Jockeys Gary Baze and David Lopez both fell from their mounts in two different turf races at Golden Gate Fields on Sunday.

Baze suffered no serious injuries and X-rays of his back proved negative after he was thrown by Forrester Found, who seemed to buck as he left the chute in the third race.

Lopez was dislodged from his mount, Mornings Minion, in the sixth race after his mount bumped into Old Duke Puffer near the wire of a 1 1/8-mile race. Mornings Minion won the race but was disqualified for the incident at the wire.

Lopez tried to hang onto his mount's neck but lost his grip about 50 yards past the wire. He suffered a concussion and multiple bruises and want sent to Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley for precautionary X-rays and CT Scan.
