Two fillies go 10-second furlongs in FT-Midlantic under-tack show

Joe Nevills|May 16, 2017

A pair of juveniles set the bar for an eighth of a mile on Monday during the first of three sessions of the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-olds in training sale under-tack show, stopping the clock in 10 seconds flat.

The horses breezed over the five-eighths dirt track at the Maryland State Fairgrounds, in Timonium, Md.

Following are the two horses to tie for Monday’s fastest furlong:

* Hip 24, a first-crop Take Charge Indy filly out of the winning Johannesburg mare Phi Beta Mom, who is the dam of two winners from three foals to race. Phi Beta Mom is a full sister to Grade 2 winner Teuflesberg, and the extended page includes Grade/Group 1 winners Tale of the Cat, Minardi, and Preach, and Grade 2 winner and prominent sire Pulpit, among others. Wavertree Stables consigns the filly, as agent.

* Hip 80, a Cape Blanco filly out of the unraced Cat Thief mare Secret Island, whose four foals to race are all winners. The extended family includes Grade 1 winner Officer's Ball, multiple Grade 1-placed stakes winner Pledge Card, and Japanese Group 3 winners London Bridge and Big Planet. She sells as property of Grassroots Training and Sales.

Two horses also tied for the fastest quarter-mile breeze of the day, at 21 2/5 seconds:

* Hip 34, an Into Mischief filly who is the second foal out of the winning Tapit mare Pooh Corner. Her page includes Grade 3 winner Katilac Ofthestars, as well as stakes winners Astro Force and Astro Beauty. Wes Carter consigns the filly as agent for Carolyn Vogel of Crossed Sabres Farm.

* Hip 109, Hi Old Silver, an Old Fashioned colt out of the winning Stormy Atlantic mare Silver Lined, whose two winners from three foals to race includes stakes-placed Peej. The Pennsylvania-bred's extended family includes Grade 3 winner Bonnie Rob and stakes winner Casey's On Call. Crane Thoroughbreds consigns Hi Old Silver, as agent.

The under-tack show continues through Thursday, beginning each day at 8 a.m. Eastern. The auction will be held May 22-23, with an 11 a.m. start time.
