Two Emmys eyeing Diliberto Memorial

Two Emmys, who finished second last season in the richest turf race at Fair Grounds, the Muniz Memorial, and who upset Domestic Spending in the Grade 1 Mister D. Stakes this past August, is a possible runner Dec. 26 at Fair Grounds in the Buddy Diliberto Memorial Stakes.
Hugh Robertson, who trains Two Emmys, bought him at Keeneland’s 2017 September yearling sale for $4,500, and co-owns him with Randall Wolfe’s Wolfe Racing. Robertson said Two Emmys was in regular training at Fair Grounds, though the gelding has not posted a timed workout since his most recent start Oct. 22 in the Sycamore Stakes at Keeneland.
In that race, Two Emmys’s first start over a distance as long as 1 1/2 miles, Two Emmys set the pace after breaking from post 12 and held the lead until the last two strides, when perfect-trip Spooky Channel ran him down.
“He had the damn 12 hole and had to be asked a little bit. And the other horse [Ry’s the Guy] kept pestering him on the lead, and Jimmy [Graham] said he never did get him to relax,” Robertson said.
Robertson turned Two Emmys out for 30 days following the Sycamore but said his charge hadn’t lost all that much fitness during his down time, leading Robertson to consider the Diliberto.
“If he’s not ready, we’ll wait for the next one in January,” he said.
