Two allowance races – one on dirt, one on Tapeta – top Sunday card
HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – A pair of allowance races highlight Sunday’s nine-race program, with the first over the main track, the second on Tapeta.
The fifth event on the card will be run at one mile on dirt for fillies and mares and lured a field of eight topped by a trio of last-out winners, Corey, Shiny Empire, and Twilight.
Corey returns to dirt after winning a starter allowance with a claiming option going one mile on the turf for trainer Peter Walder. Shiny Empire overcame a poor start and rallied from last in an 11-horse field to win off by 2 1/2 lengths going 6 1/2 furlongs against conditioned-claiming foes two months ago in her last start. Twilight goes turf to dirt after winning her last outing, a high-level conditioned claimer going 7 1/2 furlongs on the grass here June 18.
Fillies and mares will go about a mile and 70 yards in the eighth race. All Quality already is a proven commodity on a synthetic surface, having won her career debut during the spring of 2019 on the Tapeta at Woodbine. All Quality enters the race off her best effort of late, a hard-fought second-place finish behind Kahiko on the turf one month ago.
Others who should be in the mix include Snow Shower, third behind All Quality a month ago, along with Isadorable Aida and Passion Plus.
