Twist Tail steps up to stakes in Arapahoe Park Debutante
Twist Tail will attempt to parlay a sharp maiden win into a stakes victory Saturday when she starts as the probable favorite in the $50,000 Arapahoe Park Debutante.
The race is one of two juvenile stakes on the card, which includes the $35,000 Silver Cup Futurity. The Debutante is for 2-year-old fillies at 5 1/2 furlongs. The Silver Cup is at the same distance but is restricted to colts and geldings who went through the Silver Cup Sale.
Twist Tail has made one start and took quick command of a maiden special weight June 25. She led throughout for a three-length victory, covering five furlongs on a fast track in 59.20 seconds. Her Beyer Speed Figure of 48 is the best number in the Arapahoe Park Debutante field.
Twist Tail is a daughter of Artie Schiller and the War Chant mare Waccamaw, who placed in multiple stakes while earning $370,065. Nathan Haar has the mount from post 2 for Tom Thurman and trainer Stacey Rushton.
The chief threat could be Robthequeen, who is moving into open company after winning the $44,000 Colorado Thoroughbred Breeders Association Lassie by a neck July 8 at Arapahoe. Jake Barton has the mount for trainer O.A. Martinez Jr.
Da Grump is the lone winner in the Silver Cup, which drew eight maidens. Da Grump cruised by five lengths in a maiden special weight for Colorado-breds in his last start July 7 at Arapahoe. He is by Daaher and out of the stakes-winning mare Kranky Karol. Barton has the mount for trainer Kenneth Gleason.
