Twin stakes for juveniles to sort out local divisions

PHOENIX – The sorting out of the top local 2-year-olds of both sexes continues at Turf Paradise on Saturday with the $30,000 Lost in the Fog Juvenile and the $30,000 Arizona Juvenile Fillies. Both races are at 6 1/2 furlongs.
The Lost in the Fog Juvenile goes as race 6 and drew a field of eight males headed by recent maiden winners Shane Doan and Trigger Warning, while the Arizona Juvenile Fillies (race 7) lured 11, including Foggia and Myrcella, who swapped decisions in a couple of recent stakes at this meet, and the dangerous Southern California shipper Gorgeous Ginny.
Shane Doan, owned by Randy Howg and trained by Robertino Diodoro, has always flashed ability, but it took him a while to put it all together. He ran second to Trigger Warning here Nov. 20 before easily beating maidens here Dec. 10.

Trigger Warning, owned by Brinley Enterprises LLC and trained by Joe Lejzerowicz, ran sixth in a stakes at Remington Park before coming here to beat Shane Doan on Nov. 20. He hasn’t run since but has worked well.
Oldtoytrain enters off a second in the Arizona Breeders’ Futurity behind Fortified Effort, who might be the best juvenile male on the grounds, while Primo Touch moves back to dirt after two easy wins on grass here.
Favoritism in the Arizona Juvenile Fillies might fall to new shooter Gorgeous Ginny. Owned by Howg and trained by Diodoro, she easily won her debut at Santa Anita in May, was second in the Landaluce there in July, and ran third in the CTBA Stakes at Del Mar in August.
Foggia, owned by the Sawyer Cattle Co. and trained by Dan McFarlane, romped in her first two starts here. Then, as the 3-10 favorite in the fillies’ division of the Arizona Breeders’ Futurity here Dec. 9, she dueled through hot splits, opened up into lane as if going on to victory, and then was caught late by Myrcella.
Myrcella, owned by Regan Anderson and Molly Pearson and trained by Pearson, blasted maidens by 11 1/2 lengths at Los Alamitos on Sept. 15. She came here for the ATBA Sales Stakes on Nov. 4, but after pressing the pace, she tired some to end up third behind Foggia and Littlesisterdon’tu. In the Arizona Breeders’ Futurity, she stalked in third and looked beaten in midstretch but finished resolutely to reel in Foggia and win by a half-length.
