TVG, the horseracing television network and account-wagering company, will be available in high-definition on Charter Communication’s Spectrum service by the end of September, the company announced on Friday. Getting an HD slot on cable networks has proved difficult for TVG, despite the rapid expansion of HD slots for cable networks over the past 10 years. During the past several years, both TVG and The Jockey Club have invested in efforts to get racetracks to upgrade their camera and transmission equipment in order to provide HD signals to the network – even if those signals were then rebroadcast to customers in a carriage slot that only had SD capability. Charter Communications has 29 million customers in 41 states, including Kentucky, New York, and California, according to the company. “Upgrading our carriage to HD has been a priority for TVG, and we’re very excited to be launching later this summer with our partners from Spectrum,” said Kip Levin, the chief executive of TVG, in a statement. “We will continue to invest in production, technology, and carriage enhancements as part of our overall commitment to our track and horsemen partners, and we look forward to more good news in this area in the next several weeks.” TVG, which is own by the gambling conglomerate FanDuel Group, is currently available in 45 million homes, according to the company.
