Turfway Park: Point Finish by a neck in Forego Stakes
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
In a battle of claiming horses turned stakes horses, Claiming Crown Iron Horse winner Point Finish rallied in the closing strides to catch Ghost is Clear in the $58,670 Forego Stakes at Turfway Park on Saturday.
Seventh of 12 early as Jasizzle set a contested pace of 22.23 seconds and 44.60 in the 6 1/2-furlong Forego, Point Finish used a potent stretch kick to pass six horses under Dean Sarvis, beating Ghost is Clear by a neck. His winning time was 1:16.64, and he paid $5.20 as the favorite.
The victory gave Point Finish his first black-type stakes victory and improved his earnings to more than $244,000 since owner Larry Morse claimed him for $15,000 at Hoosier Park in October 2012.
“I’ve had him about 15 months, and he just keeps getting better every time I run him,” trainer George Leonard III said. “He’s been a pleasant surprise. That’s all I can say. He’s a super horse.”
There was a gap of two lengths from Ghost is Clear to third-place Buster Rose, with Jasizzle holding fourth.
