Turfway: Dreamin Big upsets Holiday Inaugural
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
Dreamin Big, a three-time stakes winner vs. Indiana-breds, picked up her first open stakes win in rallying to a three-length victory in Saturday’s $50,000 Holiday Inaugural at Turfway Park.
A late runner, Dreamin Big took advantage of a blistering pace, set by longshot In a Jif, who set splits of 21.35 seconds and 44.10 in the six-furlong race.
Fifth with a quarter-mile to race, she found her stride in the lane under Jon Court, steadily passing filly after filly to win going away. Not having placed in two races previously at Turfway, she was dismissed by the betting public and paid $37.40.
A daughter of Pure Prize owned by Penny Lauer and trained by Mike Lauer, she raced six furlongs in 1:09.58 over Turfway’s Polytrack surface. The Lauers also bred her in partnership.
All those near the hot pace retreated in the stretch, and in a blanket finish for the minor awards, Lady Diva Ga Ga grabbed second with Soft Whisper third and Maude S. fourth.
The two favorites, Ire at 9-5 odds and Purely Hot at 7-2, were never factors, with the former running sixth and the latter 10th.
