Turfway: Cyber Secret breaks track record in Prairie Bayou
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
Cyber Secret got a clean trip from just off the pace Saturday en route to setting a track record as the 2-1 favorite in the $50,000 Prairie Bayou Stakes at Turfway Park in northern Kentucky.
With Israel Ocampo riding for owner Charles Cella and trainer Lynn Whiting, Cyber Secret returned $6.60 after finishing the 1 1/16-mile distance in 1:42.26 over Polytrack.
The time was the fastest for the distance since Turfway first began using the synthetic surface more than eight years ago. The former record was 1:42.52, set in 2006 by Miss Wellspring.
Stormy Going, the race-long pacesetter at 14-1, held well to be second, 4 1/2 lengths behind the winner and another 2 3/4 lengths before Occasional View, the 5-2 second choice. Villandry, also 5-2, was fourth.
Depeche Chat and Thunder Affair were early scratches, leaving a field of 12.
Cyber Secret, a 4-year-old Kentucky-bred by Broken Vow, now has won 7 of 17 starts and earned $594,593 for Cella, best known as the owner of Oaklawn Park. The colt will campaign again this winter at Oaklawn, where he came to hand earlier this year by winning three straight races, capped by the Grade 2 Oaklawn Handicap.
The $2 exacta (10-12) paid $98.80, the $1 trifecta (10-12-3) returned $224.30 and the 10-cent superfecta (10-12-3-13) was worth $74.37.
The Prairie Bayou, named for the 1993 Preakness winner, was the last of two stakes at the current holiday meet, which ends Dec. 31. The three-month winter-spring meet starts Jan. 1.
