Turf runners line up in Thursday feature
The best race on Lone Star’s card Thursday night is the sixth race. The optional $25,000 claimer at a mile on the grass is for 3-year-olds and up, and it drew a competitive field of 12.
The leading contenders include Rule Breaker, for his recent company lines; Unbridled Giant, a winner over better last out at Lone Star; and Bernie the Jet, who is multiple stakes-placed. Point Piper, who began his career in Europe, is from the multiple Group 1-winning mare Imagine, making him a half-brother to Group 1 winner Horatio Nelson.
◗ Lone Star was forced to cancel its final three races Friday night as well as races 4 through 9 on Saturday night due to thunderstorms and heavy rain. It was the first time the track had back-to-back cancellations since Lone Star opened in 1997.
