Turf Paradise: Rockin Home, Lazy Daisy May head juvenile stakes
Rockin Home, a winner of three straight, including the Arizona Breeders’ Futurity at Turf Paradise on Nov. 23, heads a field of 2-year-old males in Saturday’s $35,000 Lost in the Fog Juvenile at Turf Paradise. The 6 1/2-furlong event drew a field of nine.
Also on the card is the $35,000 Arizona Juvenile Fillies. That 6 1/2-furlong event for 2-year-old fillies, the sister race to the Lost in the Fog, drew a field of seven headed by three-time stakes winner Lazy Daisy May and unbeaten Portland Meadows invader Jet Set Kitten.
Rockin Home, owned by Tamara Metzen and trained by David Van Winkle, started his tear when he romped by 5 1/4 lengths in a trial for the Arizona Breeders’ Futurity on Nov. 6. He validated that big win with an easy victory in the Arizona Breeders’ Futurity itself, leading all the way to win by 4 3/4 lengths.
Rockin Home then faced open foes in a nonwinners-of-three allowance race at Turf Paradise on Dec. 9. He dueled for the lead and gamely prevailed by 1 3/4 lengths. Jorge Carreno, up for those three wins, stays aboard Rockin Home, a son of Rocky Bar.
I Rock the Party, trained by Molly Pearson, looms a big threat. He gamely won a division of the ATBA Sales Stakes here Oct. 19, then rallied to be second to Rockin Home in that allowance race Dec. 9. Vince Guerra keeps the call.
An interesting new face is Dallons Gold. Trained by David Bennett, Dallons Gold invades from Emerald Downs, where he won all three of his starts, including the Cahill Road Stakes on Sept. 29. Rocco Bowen rides.
Lazy Daisy May on a roll
Lazy Daisy May is the one to beat in the Arizona Juvenile Fillies. A daughter of Rocky Bar owned by Stable H M A and trained by Pearson, Lazy Daisy May has won three of her four starts. She ran second in her debut here April 19, beaten by a head. She then won a division of the ATBA Sales Stakes here May 7 and easily won the Oct. 19 running of the ATBA Sales Stakes. Last out, Lazy Daisy May won the fillies’ division of the Arizona Breeders’ Futurity at Turf Paradise on Nov. 23. Geovanni Franco keeps the mount.
Jet Set Kitten, trained by Jonathan Nance, comes from Portland unbeaten in two starts and basically untested. She won her debut there – in a stakes, no less – Sept. 2 by 4 1/4 lengths. She won her debut in a stakes race, got some time off, came back in another stakes there Nov. 17, and romped by 9 3/4 lengths in hand as the 1-5 favorite. Anne Von Rosen rides.
