Turf dash, dirt sprint top Friday card
MIAMI – A pair of allowance races highlight Friday’s program at Gulfstream Park West, the first carded on the turf, the second over the main track.
A field of 10 2-year-olds is scheduled to go five furlongs on the grass in the seventh race, most having had success on the main track should a change in surface be necessary. The field is led by trainer Wesley Ward’s Designed by Kitten, exiting a fourth-place finish in the Hollywood Beach on the Gulfstream turf but with a maiden win on dirt; Fouzia, coming off a third-place effort in the Untapable Stakes on turf at Kentucky Downs; and the speedy Hara, fourth in the Grade 3 Schuylerville this past summer at Saratoga.
The eighth race will be run at 6 1/2 furlongs under high-priced optional-claiming and allowance conditions, with Frosted Grace likely to go postward the solid favorite for trainer Kathy Ritvo while donning blinkers for the first time since Jan. 23.
