Trump My Record tops Texas Classic Futurity
Trump My Record set the fastest qualifying time for the Grade 1, $904,631 Texas Classic Futurity at Lone Star Park in the first of 13 trials last month and figures to go favored in Saturday night’s finale, which is the richest race in Texas.
Lone Star is closing out its Quarter Horse meet by showcasing the Texas Classic Futurity on a card featuring four stakes. The Grade 1, $344,571 Texas Classic Derby is led by Flying Cowboy 123, while the 12-race program also includes the $47,612 Texas Classic Juvenile and $30,000 Paragon Oaks.
Trump My Record blew away the competition in his Oct. 19 trial for the Texas Classic Futurity, winning off by 2 1/4 lengths. He covered 400 yards in 19.46 seconds in what was his seventh win from nine starts in 2019.
Back in May, Trump My Record won Sam Houston’s richest race when he captured the Grade 2, $459,700 Sam Houston Futurity. He was the fastest qualifier for that series, too, from 15 trials. Trump My Record’s other major win came at Louisiana Downs, in the Grade 3, $254,070 Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity in March.
Eddie Sanchez is the regular rider on Trump My Record and again has the mount from post 7. Jose Sanchez III, trains for Cruz Nava.
My Fast Prize, who finished second to Trump My Record in the Texas Classic trials, also qualified for the finale Saturday night. He was the 10th fastest qualifier, with a time of 19.82.
Chilitos, winner of the Grade 2, $344,100 Dash For Cash Futurity Oct. 5 at Lone Star, was the second fastest qualifier for the Texas Classic Futurity. He won his trial by 2 1/2 lengths in 19.58 seconds. Nestor Duran was aboard and again has the mount for trainer Adrian Huitron.
Josue Ponce, who led the Lone Star trainer standings into the final week of the meet, will saddle third-fastest qualifier A Painted Dynasty.
Flying Cowboy 123 is seeking a Texas Classic sweep as he was the winner of last year’s Texas Classic Futurity. He comes into Saturday night’s Texas Classic Derby off a length win in his Oct. 19 trial. Flying Cowboy 123 covered 440 yards in 21.57 seconds to set the standard for the finale. Ricky Ramirez has the mount for trainer J.J. Gonzalez III.
Paragon Farms owns Flying Cowboy 123 and also is sponsoring the Paragon Oaks. The winner of the race for fillies and mares will receive a free breeding to Flying Cowboy 123.
