Trouble Kid made the leap from $15,000 claim to Grade 3 winner Saturday at Parx Racing, where he upset the 4-5 favorite Limousine Liberal in the $300,000 Gallant Bob. Next month, there’s a chance Trouble Kid could turn up in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint. “Maybe now we can think about it,” said winning trainer Ramon Preciado. Trouble Kid ($28.40) won the Gallant Bob by a neck over Limousine Liberal. It was another half-length back in third to Bayerd. The Gallant Bob, a six-furlong race for 3-year-olds, was the richest of three undercard stakes supporting the Cotillion and Pennsylvania Derby.  Trouble Kid won his third straight race in the Gallant Bob. Barbara Hopkins claimed the horse July 5 at Parx out of a $15,000 maiden-claiming race in which he finished second. Trouble Kid proceeded to win a $25,000 maiden-claiming race by 16 1/2 lengths July 25 at Parx, then backed up the performance with a nine-length win in a $25,000 starter allowance Aug. 26 at Delaware Park. “We claimed him. He was coming around,” said Preciado. “And we think he might be allergic to the Lasix, so we cut it down. We didn't take him off it, but we cut it back.” Trouble Kid battled for the lead through the opening eighth of a mile in the Gallant Bob but shook free after a first quarter in 21.32 seconds. He remained clear through a half-mile in 44.31, and in the stretch, he fought off a bid from Limousine Liberal, who was coming off a runner-up finish in the Grade 1 King’s Bishop at Saratoga. Trouble Kid covered the distance on a fast track in 1:10.56. Joshua Navarro was aboard for Preciado, whose brother, Lupe Preciado, trained the winner of last year’s Gallant Bob, Favorite Tale. Trouble Kid is a son of Harlan’s Holiday. He now has won 3 of 7 starts and $218,890. Encryption dominates Bayern After some close calls against graded rivals, Encryption became a stakes winner in dominant fashion Saturday when he pulled clear by 6 1/4 lengths in the $150,000 Bayern. Classic Giacnroll finished second in the 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-olds and up, while it was another 2 1/2 lengths back in third to Grasshoppin. Encryption had placed in three stakes earlier in his career, including last year’s Grade 3 Pegasus at Monmouth and the Grade 3 Skip Away in January at Gulfstream. In the Bayern, he tracked the pace in second, launched a decisive move on the final turn to overtake the leader Grasshoppin through six furlongs in 1:12.09, and pulled away in the stretch. Encryption, who was ridden by Paco Lopez, covered the distance in 1:44.34. The horse won his fourth race from 13 career starts and earned $90,000 for his effort in the Bayern. “He has his problems,” said winning trainer Kelly Breen. “He needs time between his races, but when he's right he's a great horse. When he doesn’t fire, there's always a reason. When he's good, he’s a top-class horse.” Breen said plans for Encryption, who races for Stoneway Farm, are to be determined. “We might not seem him again until Gulfstream,” he said. “I don't have anything in mind for him now.” Encryption is a 4-year-old by Exchange Rate. ** Uncle Dave ($6) held off Beyond Smart by a head to win the $100,000 Alphabet Soup Handicap, a Pennsylvania-bred race for 3-year-olds and up that served as the first of the afternoon’s stakes at Parx. Uncle Dave set fractions of 24.50 seconds for the opening quarter, 49.49 for the half-mile, and 1:13.10 for six furlongs before going on to win the 1 1/16-mile race on firm turf in 1:44.13. Jorge Vargas Jr. was aboard for M-Z Racing Partnership and Marcos Zulueta. – additional reporting by Jim Dunleavy
